Aspiring Songwriters Share the Love
Members interviewed participants in our songwriting workshop with West Coast Songwriters to better understand what led them to create. Participants shared their experiences using the following questions as a springboard.
• What has the song-writing process been like for you?
• What was it like to work with the West Coast Songwriters Association?
• Did you have any experience in song-writing prior to this?
• What is your favorite part of the song-writing experience?

I think it’s cool having a creative space for members who are interested. It’s just been really fun. I enjoy it. They had a lot of good tips and advice for writing a structured song. It will help us a lot more with our creative sides. Did I have any experience with songwriting? Well, I did with poetry. In college I wrote a song for creative writing. The West Coast Songwriters Association also helped. My favorite part was the Collaborative aspect of it. Having everybody put their heads together to create a meaningful song.

It’s been cool to see people get creative in a way we haven’t done in the Clubhouse before. It’s unique to see people sharing their stories over lyrics. They had a lot of valuable insights into songwriting. This has also helped me with my creative pursuits outside of Clubhouse.
I’m in a few bands. Songwriting is hard. My favorite part of the songwriting experience is hearing it after it’s done. When you start writing a song, you’re kind of working from nothing. Hearing a song after it’s finished is pretty awesome.

It’s been a new experience for me. I’ve never worked in song writing. I’ve learned a lot. I learned new terminology and about processes and steps. Previously I performed music in summer camp as a teenager, years ago, but never wrote a song. When we all play together and rehearse together, we see the song come to life.
